Procedure That Melts Fat

Rochester, NY -
A medical technique called mesotherapy that's just catching on in America promises to melt fat away, but doctors warn that it may only be a quick fix.

Doctors inject a combination of 4 to 7 different compounds that reportedly melt fat under the level of the skin called the mesoderm.

The procedure has been done widely in Europe since the 1950s, but never really caught on in the states. In fact, only a handful of doctors perform the procedure now.

Local plastic surgeon Donald Capuano cautions that the procedure is no quick fix. "I personally think that it is the oncoming therapy but as with anything medication, surgery...This should be approached with caution and should be used as an adjunct, not as a cure all," he said.

The skeptics continue to wonder especially about side affects and complications that include fibrosis, scars, and pain.

Dr. Capuano said he performs various methods of mesotherapy, but it should only be used on very small areas that may be starting to sag.
