During the 1999 meeting of the American Society of Plastic
Surgeons in New Orleans, new technology was introduced.
The following is taken from an ESC Sharplan Laser Corporation
bulletin October 1999 describing information from the meeting.
ESC Sharplan Laser Corporation considers themselves a leader
in laser technology. The company is an innovator in the
intense pulsed light technology.
The bulletin comments --------
Technology has become the preferred pathway to beauty
in modern society, enabling people, particularly the more
than 40 million American women over age 40, to achieve a
"look good, feel good" appearance.
The latest trend in cosmetic surgery is toward non-invasive,
smaller and less drastic procedures with little to no recovery
time. This objective characterizes the essence of a new
facial skin treatment using intense pulsed light (IPL) technology.
As an alternative to the persistent redness and prolonged
recovery time following many laser procedures, a well-known
dermatologist problem Los Gatos, CA, has developed a technique
called that uses intense pulses of light to improve the
signs of photoaging (wrinkles), pigment changes (brown
spots) and telangiectasias (small blood vessels or spider
veins). A recent study of 23 patients who underwent a series
of three to five full-face IPL treatments showed that skin
was revitalized; pore size was reduced; and facial blushing
or redness associated with rosacea and broken capillaries
was eliminated. Anesthesia was not required, there was no
"down time," and no adverse reactions were observed. Overall
patient satisfaction was extremely high.
"Intense pulsed light technology is an innovative device
that surpasses any rejuvenation therapy on the market today,
offering the cosmetic surgeon new and ever expanding clinical
applications," the Doctor comments. He also successfully
employs intense pulsed light therapy for preventive and
maintenance treatments that promise "less is more and "sooner
rather than later" results.
IPL technology goes beyond traditional lasers to treat
the widest range of cosmetic conditions on most skin complexions
all year round.
Experts are finding that IPL technology is especially
beneficial for treating the early signs of aging. In addition,
IPL treatments offer an excellent fit with the lifestyle
criteria of today's active individuals who seek speedy treatments,
minimal discomfort, and no down time.
"This single technology has long been recognized for
successful treatment of benign vascular lesions and the
vascular symptoms of rosacea," .... "Now, we are using the
same IPL device to perform more than 800 full-face (...facial
treatments...) in the first six months of this year alone.
It's a nice complementary adjunct to almost any cosmetic
procedure." comments the Doctor.
--------- end of bulletin extract.
The experience at our office has been very positive in
the use of intense pulsed light. Individuals who have sought
our care regarding excessive hair have been pleased to note
that their skin has tightened and lightened as an adjunct
to the hair removal.
We have also offered this technology to individuals who do
not have excessive hair. The results have been positive
to this point.
Treatments are affordable. The number of treatments is
usually five, more for significantly damaged skin. We have
combined the pulsed light treatments with other skin care
routines and have found that the results are even more beneficial.
Just like any finish - you skin will need maintenance therapy
of some sort.
Call us at 585 225 0680 and ask to speak with our specialized
and knowledgeable staff about these treatments. Many have
had treatments themselves.
